Considering counselling in or around Gerrards Cross? There are two simple ways to start: in-person sessions at my practice in nearby Uxbridge, or secure online and telephone sessions you can join from home anywhere across the SL9 area. I’m Lydia Nightingale, a person-centred counsellor (BA Hons, Dip, MBACP) with over fifteen years’ experience, working with individuals and couples.
Person-centred counselling for Gerrards Cross
Person-centred counselling rests on a quietly hopeful idea: that you understand your own life better than anyone, even when it feels tangled or stuck. My role isn’t to diagnose you or hand you a tidy formula, it’s to sit alongside you in a warm, confidential space where you can put things into words and feel genuinely heard. Gerrards Cross has a particularly settled, composed feel, the common, Bulstrode Park, the smart parade of shops by the station, and somewhere this comfortable, it’s easy to feel you ought to have everything in hand. You don’t. A steady hour each week, in person or online, gives you somewhere dependable to bring whatever you’re carrying, however composed things look from the outside.
What people bring to counselling
- Anxiety and low mood, feeling tense, flat, or somehow not quite like yourself lately.
- Relationship and couple difficulties, as a Couple Counselling Practitioner I work with partners together as well as one-to-one.
- Grief and bereavement, a loss that still weighs heavy, or words that were never quite said.
- Work and life pressure, the strain of long commutes, big decisions, or a change that has unsettled everything.
Reaching sessions from Gerrards Cross
Sitting just over the Buckinghamshire border, Gerrards Cross is the furthest of my local towns, but still a manageable twenty minutes from Uxbridge along the A40 and M40, so an in-person session before or after work is perfectly doable. Gerrards Cross station on Chiltern Railways runs straight into Marylebone, and the same line links the town to the wider area. For many people across Gerrards Cross town centre, Chalfont St Peter and Fulmer, though, the distance makes online or telephone sessions the natural choice, every bit as private and personal as meeting in the room, with no drive to plan around at the end of a long day. Whichever suits you, the aim is the same: somewhere calm and consistent to land each week.
Sessions, fees and your free first call
Individual sessions last 50 minutes (£70) and couples sessions 60 minutes (£95), usually weekly or fortnightly to begin with, for as long, or as short, a time as feels right for you. Nothing is decided on the spot: we begin with a free, no-obligation 20-minute telephone consultation, so you can ask questions and get a feel for how I work before committing to anything.
Wherever you’re starting from, there’s a way in
You’re welcome to explore the areas I work with most often: anxiety, stress and self-esteem, relationship and couples counselling, grief and bereavement, and work and career wellbeing. I also offer specialist, trauma-informed support for survivors of domestic abuse. Close to Gerrards Cross, I also see people from neighbouring Denham, Iver and Harefield.
