Work shapes far more of our wellbeing than we tend to admit, and when the pressure builds, it rarely stays at the office. Counselling for work and career gives you a confidential, unhurried space to think clearly, set down the weight you’ve been carrying, and look after yourself. I’m Lydia Nightingale, a person-centred counsellor (MBACP) in Uxbridge with over fifteen years’ experience, and I work with people across Hillingdon, Stockley Park and West London in person, or online anywhere in the UK.
When work and career counselling can help
You don’t need to be at breaking point to reach out. If work is taking more from you than it gives back, or if a decision about your career is keeping you up at night, that’s reason enough to talk it through. Counselling isn’t about fixing you or handing you a productivity plan; it’s a calm hour where you can be honest about what’s really going on, without having to perform being “fine”.
What people bring to sessions
- Work stress and burnout, exhaustion that sleep doesn’t fix, an inbox that never empties, and the sense you’ve nothing left to give. This is the focus of my work stress & burnout counselling in Uxbridge.
- A blurred line between work and home, never quite switching off, guilt whichever way you turn, no room left for yourself. My work-life balance counselling is a space to rebuild those boundaries.
- A career at a crossroads, redundancy, a change of direction, or the quiet question of whether this is still the right path. See my career change counselling.
- Difficult workplace dynamics, a challenging manager, a strained team, or feeling unseen and undervalued.
- Loss of confidence or purpose, cynicism, detachment, or a creeping sense that nothing you do really matters anymore.
How person-centred counselling works
Person-centred counselling means I won’t diagnose you or hand you a programme to follow. My role is to offer a warm, non-judgemental space where you set the pace and lead the way, somewhere you can put down the pressure to perform and think out loud about what matters to you. Where it helps, I gently bring in creative and reflective work, because Go Well Services is a space where counselling and creativity meet. Everything we talk about stays confidential, and entirely separate from any employer scheme or EAP.
What working together looks like
- We begin with a free, no-obligation 20-minute telephone consultation, a chance to ask questions and get a feel for whether we’re a good fit, with no commitment.
- In our first session you can share as much or as little as you like about how work has been affecting you and what you’d hope to change.
- From there we meet at a pace that suits you, weekly or fortnightly to begin with, for as long or as short a time as you need. Sessions are 50 minutes (£70).
Counselling that fits around your working day
Fitting support around a demanding job is often the hardest part, so I keep it as practical as possible. Sessions are held in a calm, private room near Uxbridge town centre, a short walk from Fassnidge Park and Uxbridge Underground, and an easy trip from Stockley Park (UB11) and the surrounding business parks. I offer evening appointments by arrangement, which many working clients find easier, and online or telephone sessions make it simpler still to fit counselling between meetings and shifts.
I see people from right across Hillingdon, Hayes, West Drayton, Ickenham and Ruislip, or online anywhere in the UK. If the strain at work has begun to spill into low mood or constant worry, you may also find my counselling for anxiety, stress and self helpful, the two often go hand in hand.
