If your relationship feels stuck, distant, or caught in the same argument on a loop, counselling gives you both a calm, neutral space to slow down, be honest, and properly hear each other. I’m Lydia Nightingale, a person-centred counsellor and Couple Counselling Practitioner in Uxbridge, and I work with couples and individuals across Hillingdon and West London, in person or online.

What relationship and couples counselling involves

Most people arrive feeling that something between them isn’t working and they’re not sure how to put it right on their own. Counselling isn’t about deciding who’s right or telling you what to do, it’s a confidential hour where you can both set down the day-to-day and look together at what’s really going on, with someone alongside you who won’t take sides.

As a person-centred practitioner I trust that you are the experts on your own relationship. My role is to help you feel safe enough to be open, to slow heated conversations down, and to make room for the things that are hard to say.

Reasons couples and individuals come to see me

  • Communication that keeps breaking down, the same arguments going round, or a silence that has grown between you.
  • Trust that has been shaken, after an affair, a betrayal, or months of feeling let down.
  • A big life change, becoming parents, money or work stress, illness, bereavement, or the children leaving home.
  • Feeling more like flatmates than partners, wanting to reconnect and remember what brought you together.
  • Deciding what comes next, whether to stay together, and how to separate kindly if that turns out to be the answer.

How I work with couples

My approach is warm, unhurried and non-judgemental. I won’t referee your arguments or hand out verdicts; instead I help you each feel heard, notice the patterns underneath the friction, and find your own way forward. Couples sessions are 60 minutes (£95); individual sessions are 50 minutes (£70). We meet weekly or fortnightly to begin with, at a pace that suits you both.

What the first few sessions look like

  1. We start with a free, no-obligation 20-minute telephone consultation, a chance to ask questions and see whether we’re a good fit, with no commitment.
  2. In our first session together we talk about what has brought you here and what you’d each like to be different.
  3. From there we meet at a pace that suits you, gently exploring the patterns beneath the arguments and rebuilding understanding and connection.

Come together, or on your own

You don’t need your partner’s agreement to begin. Many people start relationship counselling on their own to make sense of things first. When you’re ready to work together, I offer couples counselling in Uxbridge and marriage counselling. If you’re facing the end of a relationship I also support people through separation and divorce.

Sessions are held in a calm, private room near Uxbridge town centre, a short walk from The Chimes and Uxbridge Underground, and I see people from right across Hillingdon, Cowley, Ickenham, Ruislip and the surrounding area, or online anywhere in the UK.

Relationships & Couples counselling in Uxbridge, your questions

Where do you offer couples counselling in Uxbridge?
Sessions are held in a calm, private room near Uxbridge town centre, a few minutes from The Chimes and Uxbridge Underground (Metropolitan and Piccadilly lines), with easy parking nearby. I also work online across the UK if that suits you both better.
How much does relationship or couples counselling cost?
Individual sessions are £70 (50 minutes) and couples sessions are £95 (60 minutes). Every enquiry starts with a free, no-obligation 20-minute telephone consultation so we can see whether we're a good fit.
Do you cover Hillingdon, Cowley and Ickenham as well as Uxbridge?
Yes, I work with people from right across the borough, including Hillingdon (UB10), Cowley (UB8), Ickenham, Ruislip, Hayes and West Drayton. Wherever you are in West London, in-person or online sessions are available.
Can I come on my own if my partner won't?
Absolutely. Many people start relationship counselling individually, to make sense of what's happening and decide what they want. You're welcome whether you come alone or together.
Do you offer marriage counselling, or only for couples staying together?
Both. I support married and unmarried couples, partners deciding whether to stay together, and those who want to separate with care. As a Couple Counselling Practitioner I don't take sides, my role is to help you both feel heard.

Not sure where to start?

A free, no-pressure 20-minute consultation is the easiest first step. We'll see if we're a good fit, no commitment.
