When couples counselling can help

Couples come to counselling for all sorts of reasons, and you don't need to be in crisis to come. Wanting to understand each other better, or to face something difficult side by side rather than alone, is reason enough.

Conversations keep going wrong

Every talk seems to circle back to the same hurt, or you've quietly stopped raising the things that matter to dodge another row. You want to feel genuinely heard again.

The same argument on a loop

You can both predict exactly how it'll go, over money, the kids, the in-laws, whose turn it was, and yet you end up right back there. It's wearing you both down.

Rebuilding trust after a betrayal

An affair, a secret, or a broken promise has shaken the ground under you. You're not sure whether trust can be rebuilt, or where you'd even begin.

Drifting apart

The closeness has slipped away so gradually you barely noticed, and now you feel more like flatmates or co-parents than partners. You miss being a couple.

A big change has reshaped things

A new baby, a house move, redundancy or a bereavement has knocked you off balance, and you're each coping in different ways that pull you apart rather than together.

Deciding what comes next

You're caught between staying to rebuild and parting ways, and you want a calm, even-handed space to work out together what's right, and to do it kindly, whatever you decide.

How person-centred couples counselling works

Person-centred counselling means I don't take sides and I don't hand out verdicts. My role is to help both of you feel genuinely heard, to slow difficult conversations down, and to make it safe to say the things that are hard to say.

Sessions are led by you. Some couples want to repair and reconnect; others need a supported space to part with care. Where words alone aren't enough, I gently bring in creative and reflective work. Go Well Services is a space where counselling and creativity meet.

Relationships

So, you say you want to stay in my life
Well then, we both have to put more effort in
Life is short, and none of us are perfect
Stop saying you have to do this or that

1 The fact is, we both need to take the time to listen, hear, and understand what is being said, before responding
2 The fact is, we both need to talk to each other, about how we have both hurt each other

We need to allow each other time to say everything
We need to be vulnerable with each other
We need to be honest with each other

Then we need to have regular talks together, spend time together, and put each other first.

This is a time for action. As we know, action speaks louder than words.
We need to stop comparing each other to people or other people relationships

As, we can never truly know them or what really happens in their relationship. And this causes unnecessary disappointment in each other, without ever truly having the full information.

When we have done all the above

Then we can work towards a more authentic and happier relationship.

Frequently asked questions

Where do you offer couples counselling?
In person in Uxbridge (UB8/UB10), easily reached from Hillingdon, Ickenham, Ruislip, Eastcote, Hayes, Cowley and West Drayton. Online appointments are also available across the UK via secure video or telephone, if that's easier for you both.
Do both partners need to attend every session?
Most of the time we work with both of you together, as that's where the relationship lives. Occasionally an individual session can be helpful, we'd always agree that openly between the three of us first.
How long does couples counselling take?
There's no fixed number. Some couples come for a focused handful of sessions; others for longer. Sessions are usually weekly and last 60 minutes, and we review together regularly so you stay in control of the pace.
How much does couples counselling cost?
Couples counselling is £95 for a 60-minute session, and you're welcome to a free, no-obligation 20-minute telephone session to start with. Five-session packages that save £25 are also available; see fees & sessions for full details.
Are you registered and insured?
Yes, I'm a registered member of the BACP and work to the BACP Ethical Framework, and I'm also a member of the BAATN. You're in safe, accountable hands.
Can we have our sessions online?
Absolutely. Online couples counselling by secure video works well and means we can meet from anywhere in the UK, useful if you have different schedules or travel for work.
How do I get to your couples counselling room in Uxbridge?
My room is in Uxbridge (UB8), close to the town centre and Uxbridge Underground (Metropolitan & Piccadilly lines), with parking nearby. If travelling in is tricky, I am available online across the UK by secure video or telephone.
Do you see clients face to face outside Uxbridge?

No, all face-to-face couples counselling takes place from my private room in Uxbridge (UB8). Clients travel to me from across Hillingdon, including Hillingdon, Cowley, Ickenham, Ruislip, Eastcote and Hayes.

If getting to Uxbridge is difficult, I also offer counselling online or by telephone anywhere in the UK.

Do you offer evening couples counselling in Uxbridge?
Yes, I currently keep some evening appointments for couples in Uxbridge by arrangement, which can make it easier when you both work. We'll find a time that suits you both on your free consultation.
“Before couple counselling with you, we thought we would surely break up, but after counselling with you, we have started connecting better and enjoying each others company. We have even written this together. Thank you so much, Lydia”
